This 15 month project included the demolition of existing units to the front of the site, the construction of a new access road feeding future development to the rear, major earthworks to form the development platforms for the Aldi and two other retailers, the build of a new Aldi store, highway junction works, and a foul pump station serving the whole development. Eco-Crib & Timber Crib retaining walls were used in visible areas to really set this site off against a beautiful valley backdrop and substantial precast concrete retaining walls were used in less prominent locations.
Highway works included improvements for sustainable transport (cycle friendly junction), and accessibility to future units behind the Aldi store. Foul pumping station was adoptable to South-West Water requirements and required a 600m rising main to connect to existing mains sewers.
There were two underground attenuation tanks as part of SUDS to reduce the discharge rate. Foundations for the Aldi were mass concrete on vibro-stone columns. The Aldi superstructure was traditional steel frame.
