Landmark 22-Storey Student Residential Development in Bristol
This 22-storey new-build student residential development is located within St. Philips Temple Quarter, near Bristol City Centre. Forming part of a larger masterplan to regenerate the predominantly industrial area, the project creates a high-quality residential destination while contributing to the revitalisation of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Craddys were appointed on a structures-led basis and supported the project from Stage 2 through to Gateway 1 submission. Our scope included optimisation of the structural grid, design of detailed transfer structures, and collaboration with the design team to deliver a safe, efficient, and high-quality frame. The development primarily consists of a piled reinforced concrete frame, with prefabricated facades and large double-height ground-floor spaces.
Key challenges included managing the site’s adjacency to the river, requiring detailed flood risk assessments and co-ordination with neighbouring properties to develop an effective flood defence strategy. Tight urban site constraints, programme pressures, and the need to maintain the architectural vision of the building also demanded careful structural planning. Craddys delivered innovative solutions to these challenges, ensuring the structure met both functional and aesthetic requirements while supporting the wider regeneration objectives for the area.
