High-Quality Residential Neighbourhood for Taylor Wimpey

Commissioned by Taylor Wimpey, this major residential scheme on the edge of Cardiff will provide 377 new homes, including a mix of apartments and family housing. The development supports growing local demand for high-quality accommodation and forms part of a wider neighbourhood expansion. Three six-storey apartment blocks sit at the heart of the scheme, incorporating basement car parking beneath a shared podium structure.

Craddys were appointed to deliver structural engineering services from RIBA Stage 3 through to Stage 5. Our remit focused on the reinforced concrete superstructure, pile-supported foundations and podium slab, with technical support through detailed design and construction. As a structures-led commission, the team worked closely with the wider design and contractor teams to coordinate buildability and sequencing.

Key site constraints included tight boundary conditions and temporary works interfaces along neighbouring plots. Through early engagement and systematic value engineering, Craddys helped refine the structural approach, achieving approximately £0.5m in cost savings while maintaining design intent. The result was a robust, efficient solution that unlocked delivery on a challenging site.
