Regional Winner – Best Small Social Housing Development, LABC Awards 2022

Craddys provided the civil and structural design for 24 apartments and 3 houses for Cheltenham Borough Homes. The apartments are a traditional masonry build with a steel grillage at third floor level to enable the construction of balconies and inset walls to penthouse apartments with precast concrete upper floors. Foundation design utilised a piled and reinforced ground beam solution to suit the weight of a traditional construction and clay ground conditions considering nearby trees whilst minimising excavation depths.

The surface water drainage design utilised SUDS including permeable paving with underlying stone attenuation to form the courtyard parking areas including weir walls to limit the depth and excavation due to the sloping site and limit the discharge rate from site. We secured the required statutory drainage and highways approvals and worked with the contractor to achieve the successful completion of this project.
