Based in the heart of vibrant Stokes Croft, this exciting new development of 143 apartments and 14 commercial spaces for contemporary living featured a new marketplace set to enhance the neighbourhoods’ independent spirit. The development consisted of five Blocks ranging from 4-7 storeys.
Three of the Blocks utilised braced steel frames with precast concrete floor slabs and Slimflor beams for speed of construction. The other two were predominantly traditional forms of construction, albeit concrete transfer decks were utilised where necessary to maximise the allowable building heights.
The most impressive aspect of the project was the temporary support and retention of the Bath stone frontage of the old Carriageworks building itself. Constructed in 1862 this Grade II* listed façade was incorporated into the permanent residential development via Cintec anchors and steel bracketry, which ensured lateral support back to the new permanent steel frame whilst allowing for differential vertical movement.
