Delivering Robust Industrial Infrastructure on a Coastal Site
This project involved the delivery of a new wood waste processing facility at Port Clarence, located on the banks of the River Tees. The approximately 7‑hectare site comprises extensive concrete hardstanding areas to support the storage, processing, and onward transfer of waste wood as part of a wider industrial operation.
Craddys were appointed to provide civil and structural engineering design services for the scheme. Our scope included the design of large‑scale external hardstanding areas and associated infrastructure to accommodate heavy plant movements, operational loading, and long‑term durability in a demanding industrial environment.
Key challenges included designing robust pavement and drainage solutions suitable for continuous heavy use and exposure to a coastal setting. Craddys’ pragmatic engineering approach ensured a resilient, efficient layout capable of supporting high‑intensity operations while allowing flexibility for future changes in processing requirements.
