Large‑Scale Logistics Infrastructure on Challenging Ground
This major logistics project comprised the civil and structural design of a regional distribution centre for Aldi Stores Limited. The development includes a 33,000 m² ambient warehouse, a 21,000 m² temperature‑controlled warehouse, and 4,000 m² of office accommodation, with a 15 m internal haunch height to accommodate traditional pallet racking.
Craddys provided full civil and structural engineering services from planning through detailed design and construction. Our scope covered all substructure and superstructure elements, alongside ongoing technical support through to handover.
The site presented significant challenges due to historic sand and gravel extraction, with quarried areas infilled using pulverised fuel ash (PFA). Craddys developed a robust ground improvement strategy using cement stabilisation to enable driven piled foundations and support external hardstanding. This approach mitigated geotechnical risk and enabled successful delivery of a complex, large‑scale facility.
