Civil and structural design of a regional distribution centre for Aldi Stores Limited. Circa 33,000m2 ambient warehouse, 21,000m2 single envelope temperature-controlled warehouse and 4,000m2 of office accommodation. 15m internal haunch height with traditional pallet racking.
The proposed site was historically subject to commercial sand and gravel extraction and the quarried areas had subsequently been infilled with pulverised fuel ash (PFA) from a nearby power station. This material posed significant challenges to both the building foundation design and external hard surfaces. Cement stabilisation was used to improve ground conditions in the temporary and permanent conditions allowing driven piles to be installed to support the building.
Craddys provided support to the project throughout planning, developed the full detailed design of all sub and super structure elements and followed the project through construction to hand over and completion
