Modern Learning and Dining Facilities for a Growing Secondary School
Instructed by Willmott Dixon on behalf of North Somerset Council, this project expanded Gordano School’s facilities to accommodate increasing pupil numbers. The development provides seven new classrooms, an IT suite, a two-storey dining hall, a Sixth Form Learning Resource Centre, and a modernised kitchen—replacing outdated single-storey blocks to support the school’s long-term growth.
Craddys were appointed to deliver full civil and structural engineering services from RIBA Stages 2 to 6. Our scope included the design of the superstructure, foundations, and below-ground drainage, all within a tightly constrained, operational school environment. Construction within a live campus demanded meticulous phasing and coordination to maintain safety and minimise disruption.
Through close collaboration with Willmott Dixon and the wider design team, the project was successfully delivered, providing the school with contemporary, flexible facilities that enhance day-to-day learning and future capacity.
