A Flexible and Sustainable Learning Environment in Yatton
Commissioned by Willmott Dixon, Chestnut Park Primary School is a new-build education facility providing accommodation for up to 210 pupils. Completed and opened in 2020, the project responds to growing local demand for high-quality primary school places and was designed to allow future expansion through the addition of a similarly sized building.
Craddys were appointed to deliver full civil and structural engineering design services from project inception through to completion. The primary structure comprises a single-storey braced steel frame supported on traditional ground-bearing pad foundations. Craddys also designed the associated civil engineering works, including below-ground drainage, external levels, and hard landscaping.
A key achievement was the integration of a sustainable drainage strategy incorporating an open SuDS basin and permeable paving to manage surface water runoff effectively. The wider site development included new car parking, playgrounds, a MUGA, and external games areas, creating a coordinated, sustainable, and future-ready learning environment. The scheme was delivered collaboratively, aligned with programme and quality objectives.
