Rob Burgess: Our First Mental Health First Aider

With April being Stress Awareness Month, we thought this was a great time to announce that we now have our first Craddys’ Mental Health First Aider, Principal Engineer Rob Burgess.

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience some form of a mental illness each year. Mental Health First Aiders are trained to spot the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, provide non-judgemental support and reassurance and, if necessary, guide a person to seek professional support.

Craddys’ health and safety risk assessments now consider physical and mental health and risks. Our aim is to manage and mitigate the risks of harm in the workplace and we are creating ways to support people with mental health issues, treating mental health in a similar way to physical health.

By investing in Mental Health First Aid training, we aim to raise awareness of mental illnesses in the workplace, encourage early intervention to aid recovery and reduce any stigma around mental health issues. We have a Social Responsibility team committed to improvement in this area.

We hope that by becoming more informed and aware, managers and employees will be able to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health issues more easily and provide the right support. We want to be able to support our team members and believe that the appointment of our first Mental Health First Aider is a positive step towards this.
