Craddys Intensive Engineering Experience’

Craddys recently hosted four Work Experience students for the all new ‘Craddys Intensive Engineering Experience’ hosted by our very own Tom Minett.

Starting off with a site visit and appraisal at the recently finished Craddys’ designed Pill Fire Tower. Ollie M, Evelyn, Harry and Ollie P then designed an extension to our office, sizing key elements and considering sustainable and inclusive design including an embodied carbon calculation.

Civils work included a competitive marble run design competition to replicate drainage design challenges. Overland flow path principles were modelled in real life, inspired by the on-going Euros, determining low points (potential puddles) with a football.

The week ended with a practical bridge design and build challenge, using spaghetti and marshmallows; unsurprisingly the highlight of their weeks.

It has been a great pleasure provide this experience to some very capable future engineers. We look forward to inspiring our next batch!
