The Building Safety Act – Independent Inspections: The Implementation Process

The Building Safety Act – Independent Inspections: The Implementation Process 👷‍♀️🦺

Week five of our Building Safety Act series dives into the practicalities: How do you actually implement Independent Inspections on your projects?

⚠️ Understanding the Gateway Requirements 🏗️

Guidance from The Institute of Structural Engineers outlines what documentation is suggested for structural engineering submissions at Gateways 2 and 3.

At Gateway 2, a ‘Construction Control Plan’ must be submitted, including:

✅ Construction quality requirements
✅ Interface management documents
✅ Ordinary and Independent Inspection requirements
✅ Safety-Critical Element inspection requirements
✅ Compliance evidence requirements
✅ ‘As-built’ drawings requirements

Why does this matter?

Independent Inspection of Safety-Critical Elements is now a clear regulatory requirement for High-Risk Buildings. It enables designers to verify and record that their designs have been built in accordance with their technical documentation—creating a robust audit trail that protects everyone involved.

This isn’t just about compliance—it’s about accountability. This service needs to become the new norm within our industry, for the benefit of clients, contractors, and end users alike.
