Transforming Heritage into Modern Living
Part of an award-winning regeneration scheme at King’s Cross, this project centred on the restoration of a Grade II listed gasholder frame—an iconic Victorian structure dismantled and stored at the rear of St Pancras station.
The redevelopment reimagined the historic frame as a striking feature housing contemporary apartment blocks within its original footprint.
Craddys were appointed to provide structural engineering services from planning through detailed design and delivery. Our role included developing the refurbishment strategy, designing temporary works, and overseeing the safe re-erection of the dismantled ironwork following specialist restoration.
Key challenges included integrating modern construction within a delicate heritage frame and coordinating complex logistics for dismantling, transport, and reassembly. Craddys’ innovative approach ensured the successful transformation of this historic structure into a globally admired landmark, paving the way for further gasholder projects across London.
