State-of-the-Art Maths and Science Teaching Block at Castle School

Commissioned by Morgan Sindall, this project delivered a new three-storey Maths and Science teaching block at Castle School, Thornbury. The development expanded the existing school site, providing 20 modern classrooms and laboratories to replace an outdated single-storey block, enhancing the learning environment for students.
Craddys were appointed across all RIBA stages to provide civil and structural engineering services. Our scope included innovative structural design to connect the new building seamlessly with the existing teaching block, and civil engineering works to support the development within a crowded school site.

Key challenges included working within an operational school, maintaining the safety of students and staff, and delivering the project on a tight 56-week programme. Craddys successfully implemented innovative structural solutions and carefully planned works to minimise disruption, resulting in a high-quality facility handed over in September 2024, receiving positive feedback from staff and students.
