About the project

Modern, Efficient and Operationally Resilient Fire Station for AF&RS

Commissioned by Avon Fire & Rescue Service, this £10–15m redevelopment will transform the existing site into a modern facility that enhances operational capability and staff welfare. The scheme includes a six-dock appliance bay integrated within a new three-storey office and accommodation building, designed to improve circulation, environmental performance and day-to-day efficiency for crews.

Craddys were appointed at RIBA Stage 2 and remained engaged through all subsequent stages, providing a balanced civil and structural engineering service within the contractor-led design and build team. Our work included the redevelopment of the external yard, full below-ground drainage design and coordinated superstructure and substructure solutions.

With over a decade of experience working alongside AF&RS, Craddys brought valuable technical insight and client understanding to the project. This enabled cost-effective yet robust detailing, particularly for drainage systems requiring careful environmental compliance, and the development of a bespoke training facility tailored to operational needs. The team anticipates a smooth planning approval process, enabling construction to commence in Spring 2026.
