Aldi Regional Distribution Centre

Craddys worked closely with a well known discount supermarket retailer to deliver a number of regional distribution centres (RDC) across the UK ranging in value from £20m – £60m. Craddys undertook detailed client liaison to develop a bespoke superstructure solution to each project, maximising internal space, haunch height and the like, whilst attempting to maintain continuity throughout all projects. Craddys achieved particular success with the steel frame design, undertaking detailed assessment of the optimum column grid to balance client flexibility and overall steel frame costs.

A challenging site on the Wentloog Levels with up to 20m of soft alluvial clay below ground level. Piled foundations to building and ground floor slab with cost effective ground bearing yard slabs adopted. To minimise differential movement between the piled building and ground supported yard areas, rocker slabs were adopted to concentrate movement to desired locations and allow ease of maintenance. Significant cost savings presented.
